A broadstruck coin is a mint made error which happens when a coin is struck out of a collar. Basically the metal is spread out to the side and the coin will be slightly thinner in the centre where the design is as there is no collar to keep it in place. Broadstrikes can be similar to off centre coins however the easiest way to tell them apart is on a broadstruck coin the design will be complete, where as on an off centre error, part of the design will be missing.
