1695 Salzburg, Archbishop Johann Ernst, 1/2 Taler

An stunning example. Nicely toned on parts of the edges with nice flashy lustre in the fields. This coin is slightly curved as was the case with many of these that were struck using roller dies

Ref:

Size: 34mm
Weight: 14.68g

Grade: EF+ (Us Grade MS62- MS63)

More informations :

This coin was minted using roller dies, a technology which competed with the screw press in the seventeenth century and eventually went out of use because coins made with them were rarely flat, though some people believed carrying a bent coin warded off witches. The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria. In the seventeenth century it was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop were a prolific issuer of silver coins in particular talers.

This coin is every bit as nice as one currently listed on CNG but ours is priced cheaper!:
